As many of you know, June 30th marks my last day with the Illinois River Road National Scenic Byway. I have thoroughly enjoyed managing this program for the past nine years, and I'm honored to have been entrusted by its dynamic board of directors with developing and leading it over the years.
What makes this program unique is the grassroots effort behind it. The communities, organizations, businesses and people who have given their time, funds, and support have helped develop a successful program that unites river communities between Ottawa and Havana as a nature tourism destination and source of pride for those of us who live here.
The Byway's board of directors and NCICG will continue moving this organization forward. With the final touches being put on the Historical and Archaeological Interpretive Plan, the Illinois River Road will soon share the region's rich and unique history with visitors and residents alike. The Corridor Management Plan update is well underway, and will ultimately chart the course for the future of the program. The Illinois River Road region has an exciting future ahead!
